Chapter 8. Snoop and the Professor: Mary, John, and Liz Come to Visit Me
It has been a good week in Tallahassee. The Professor and I are taking longer walks in the morning and Mom thanks me for giving the Professor such a good workout each day. I like to make Mom happy. I saw Tom Turtle move, so I guess he isn’t dead after all. We haven’t seen the alligator anymore and the Professor said that is a good thing. I am really learning the neighborhood and I have all my favorite spots where I pee marked extremely well. The Professor likes to talk to the neighbors when we go on a walk. He says one of the reasons he likes the neighborhood is because it is so diverse, people from different cultures and countries. I’m not sure what that means. But there are a variety of dogs that live in the neighborhood, maybe that’s what diversity means. There are at least two poodles, one black Labrador, an English spaniel, two cocker spaniels, a corky, several dogs that I really don’t know what kind they are, and a German police dog that I’ve been able to meet and greet. I don’t like the poodles. I am the only Beagle in the neighborhood. The Professor and I also found the neighborhood garden. The Professor said you can start your own little garden plot in this area. There are flowers, herbs, and vegetables planted in little plots. I like to smell the herbs but Dad yelled at me when I started to pee on one herb plot. He’ll get over it, it’s a Beagle thing. The Professor is still doing research and writing most of the day. Pretty boring stuff, so I still get to take long naps.
The best thing this week was that Mary and John came to see me on Friday and they are staying with us for a few days. John likes to rub me under my ears, I really like that, and Mary feeds me from the table. All I have to do is look up, cock my head, and whine just a little bit. She always shares with me. I’ve had shrimp, sausage, bacon, hot dog sauce, and pepperoni so far. I like it when Mary is here. I have her trained almost as well as the Professor.
Mom and Mary went to the beach yesterday, I wasn’t invited. They were rained on, serves them right for not taking me to the beach with them. The Professor and John went to see the American Car Museum. I wasn’t invited to go there either. The Professor said he was afraid that I would pee on the tires of the cars. He’s right, I probably would.
Then Liz came to see me today. I really like Liz. She makes over me and she knows how to talk to a dog. She makes me feel special. She didn’t bring bubby Ryan or Max. I miss Ryan but Max has way too much energy for me, you know that he’s a 98 pound Labrador pup. Mom said Liz came in for a job interview at Florida State. That would be neat if she could work where Mom works. Mom said that her interview is tomorrow. It’s nap time and I am going to dream of sausages. Talk to everyone later.
