The Adventures of Snoop and the Professor: Chapter 34

Chapter 34: Sometimes You Need to Change your Routine Life. A few weeks ago, the Professor went to visit Josh, Jess, Archie, Ryan, Liz, Anna, Jon, Glenn, Cooper, and Max. I’m not sure why I couldn’t go but I had to stay home with Mom. Don’t get me wrong, I love Mom, but this is her busy time of the year with all the students moving into residence halls and the semester just starting at Florida State. So, really I was by myself quite a bit. Honestly, I’ve gotten used to having either the Professor or Mom or both of them home with me during the pandemic and I simply don’t like it when they leave me. Routine and tradition are important to a Beagle. I am senior enough in this household to get what I want, so I decided to let the Mom and the Professor know about it.

So I decided to express my displeasure with this home alone experience. Target one was the trash can in the kitchen. Sometimes it is left out in the corner next to the garage door. That means I can check out everything in it and I have to admit I found some pungent and tasty things…pieces of chicken and pork, rib bones with bbq sauce on them, part of a turkey sandwich, part of the Professor’s hamburger, some scrambled eggs, some cheese – a little old but you know that I love cheese, an old brownie – yes, you know that I love chocolate, and a few ginger snaps – yes, my newest love. Now I wasn’t sure why the ginger snaps were there, except I do remember the other night that Mom said they were stale, so maybe she didn’t like stale ones. I thought they were fantastic. Such a feast while I was by myself that Monday!! Now there was lots of other stuff that I don’t care for such as coffee grounds and tea bags but it all just went on the kitchen floor. I then went to sleep.

So, when Mom arrived home after work, I barked at her my displeasure for leaving me home all day by myself and then she let me go into the back yard. The next thing I hear is Mom’s voice yelling at me. Now I know the not so subtle differences in her voice and this was her “I am upset with you Snoop” voice. So, I had to put on my “I’m sorry act” and I tucked my tail between my back legs, let my ears droop even more than they regularly do, lowered my head, whined a bit, and “apologized” to her. Works every time, she quickly gave in and petted my head.

Target 2 was the bathroom trash. Now the bathroom trash always has some really different and sometimes mysterious smells in it. So, I smelled the tissues, paper, toilet paper, empty medicine bottles and I scattered everything all over the floor. When Mom discovered on Tuesday what I had done, I simply repeated my “I’m sorry act” which works every time. I am such a smart Beagle and I have trained Mom and the Professor so well over the past 13 and one half years.

Then I thought that I would really mess with Mom’s mind. You know that I never, under any circumstances, walk in the rain because I am partially made of sugar and I don’t want to dissolve. No, not really. I just hate getting wet. I simply refuse to walk when I discover it is raining. So, I decided that I would actually walk in the rain Wednesday morning. This took Mom by complete surprise who figured I would get to the edge of the front doorway and refuse to walk. Well, I said let’s go Mom and I proceeded to walk in the rain. The problem is that Mom was really not dressed for the rain and she came back drenched. So did I, but it was worth it. She immediately called the Professor and told her what “his” dog had done. Note that when Mom is upset with me I am the Professor’s dog and when the Professor is upset with me I am Mom’s dog. So, after making Mom walk me in the rain, I was the Professor’s dog. Unfortunately, the fact that I had broken with 13 and one half years’ worth of tradition, Mom still left me by myself that day. Oh well, it was a nice attempt.

I got to thinking about all this after the Professor got back and I decided that every now and then a Beagle has to do something different, change with tradition, and experience something new like getting into the trash or walking in the rain. So, that’s what I’ve been doing lately. I highly recommend that you do the same…get out of that routine life and change things up. Cause some good trouble. It will keep you young!!! Oh yes, once again the Professor wants to remind you that you can read all of my adventures on his blog…whatever that is.
