The Adventures of Snoop and the Professor. Chapter 27

Chapter 27. Snoop and the Professor: Simple Things in Life

It has been a very special treat to have Mom join the Professor and me on our morning walks. Our walks have gotten much longer and I get to lead Mom and the Professor on the Tallahassee Fern Trail several times a week now and sometimes twice a day. Although I must admit that going twice really wears me out and I have to take time to sleep extra during the day. Mom likes to know how many steps she has taken after her walks and she always announces it which means since I have 4 legs I have to double whatever number she announces. This makes me happy

.

It has also been great to have Mom at home more often during the day over the past several weeks. I’m not sure what is going on in the world with this coronavirus crisis but sure I enjoy having both the Professor and Mom at home. They cook meals together and share them with me. They watch TV and work puzzles together. Of course, I supervise the puzzle construction. They talk to Bubby Josh, Ryan, Glenn, and Jon and Sissy Anna, Liz, and Jess on the phone more often and I get to hear them laugh. I love to hear Mom and the Professor laugh. They’ve cleaned the house together, they even washed all three of my beds the other day which quite honestly I didn’t appreciate. But I think you get my point.

They sit out in the back yard and listen to the birds. They read and talk about all kinds of things. They talk about how very fortunate they are compared to many in this crisis. They talk about the first responders (I don’t know what that means but it sounds important) like Aunt Lila who is a nurse and others like Uncle Mark who is a pharmacist as the real heroes of this crisis. A Beagle certainly knows that we need real heroes in a crisis. They talk about our family and how life sometimes takes such unexpected turns. They talk about how this coronavirus thing may change our everyday lives in the future, but especially how it may change education. They both agree it could have both positive and negative effects, whatever that means. Real conversation is a simple pleasure that Mom and the Professor believe we’ve lost in this country. While I pay attention a little bit, I simply prefer to take a nap in the sun out in the yard close to them. Just knowing they are right here with me makes a Beagle’s life complete. I am learning or perhaps as Mom and the Professor put it…we are learning and in some cases relearning the beauty of the simple pleasures of life. I think that is a good thing and we need to talk about good things in this crisis. Now it is time for a beagle nap.
