Chapter 21. Snoop and the Professor: The Times They are a Changing
The last few days have been difficult for me to understand but as of Tuesday night I became an official Florida Beagle! Here’s how it happened. The Professor and I were very comfortable at Casa Staten Indiana last week. Routine is important for a Beagle like me and I have the Professor trained about walks and treats. Then a big truck pulled up to the house last Saturday and the routine came to an end. Several guys came in and started taking out all of our furniture and putting it in the truck. Of course, I barked anytime they got near my 3 beds, just as any good Beagle would do. In about 3 hours, they had taken everything except my cages and 3 beds and they had driven away. The house was empty, it echoed, and I felt lost and honestly, a bit scared, even with the Professor there at my side. Then Mom showed up. She must have driven up from Florida. I was so happy to see her my tail went round and round in circles. She even took me for a walk around the neighborhood although she said it would be the last time. At the time, I didn’t know what she meant but she sounded sad and happy at the same time.
Mom, the Professor, and I went to Mary and John’s house to spend the next few nights. I like to go over there because Mary feeds me and loves on me. I have her trained about as well as the Professor. She gave me plenty of cheese and I love cheese. At the “old” Casa Staten Indiana I knew the sound of the cheese drawer in the refrigerator when anyone got into it. Mary also gave me pork, bacon, eggs, and plenty of extra Beagle treats. The Professor took me for several walks in John and Mary’s neighborhood. I liked the new smells and I had to poop right next to his flag pole the very first thing. For the next few days, I got real comfortable in John and Mary’s house and they both loved and petted me. Of course, I stayed close to Mom and the Professor because I was still confused as to what was going on.
Tuesday morning Mom woke me up at 4am, not a good time for a Beagle to be awakened. She put me in my cage in the back of her car and we were off to Florida. On the way, I pooped in Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. Mom says I set record for a Beagle !! The Professor stayed in Indiana with Mary and John but Mom says he’ll be down here for good in about 3 weeks. She told me not to get too comfortable, as we would be moving to another casa in Tallahassee very soon. It will be the new Casa Staten Tallahassee. I’m not a fan of all this moving but as long as I have Mom and the Professor with me I know I will be happy. For all my Indiana fans, I will miss you so very much. You need to come visit me in Florida in our new casa.
You know the Professor likes to play music in the car when I ride with him and he sometimes listens to a guy named Bob Dylan. The Professor calls him the poet laureate of his generation. That’s professor talk and I don’t have a clue what that means and quite honestly I don’t think the guy can sing at all but his words make sense and no doubt for me “the times they are a changing!”
