The Adventures of Snoop and the Professor. Chapter 18

Chapter 18. Snoop and the Professor: Spring Break

I could smell Florida as soon as we hit the state line yesterday! I’m not sure what spring break means but I do know that we left Casa Staten Indiana very early morning and arrived at Casa Staten Tallahassee yesterday evening. Even for someone who talks for a living, the Professor was very loquacious (how’s that word for a Beagle?) throughout the long drive. He first talked about the new sign in our yard in Indiana. He said it was a “for sale” sign. I thought it was something else for me to pee on when we go for walks. I guess that explains why we’ve had all these strangers in my house “snooping” around. He said that he and Mom had just accepted a bid on the house and, assuming the buyer’s finances go through, the house would be sold and we would be moving permanently to Tallahassee sometime in May. The only part I understood was moving permanently to Tallahassee. I can’t wait. So many great smells, turtles, birds, frogs, lizards, alligators, ponds, rivers, and the beach and, of course, Mom and the Professor won’t have to travel back and forth so much. The Professor said this was his last semester teaching on campus at Indiana University Southeast after 30 years. As a very perceptive Beagle, I detected a bit of bitter sweetness in his voice. His students mean so much to him...

As always in Florida, Mom was up early. She had to go to work at Florida State. They are called the Seminoles or Noles. What the heck is a Nole? Anyway, I had to wake the Professor up because when we are in Florida I get at least 3 walks a day and I was ready. Actually, I had to pee something terrible. So I sat and stared at him sleeping in bed and, as always, he finally awakened. I have him so well trained. Today, I didn’t even let him have coffee first because I had to go so badly. We visited all the familiar places and I marked them as any good Beagle would do. There were no alligators, turtles, and lizards on our walk this morning but I know they are here. Some days they just hide from this inquisitive Beagle. We got back to the house, the Professor put coffee on and muttered something about blue mountain coffee from Jamaica. I decided to take a nap. Before I went to sleep, the Professor said something about looking at houses in Tallahassee this week. I didn’t pay much attention to the Professor, as I was already dreaming about Beagle treats.
