Chapter 13. Snoop and the Professor: Thanksgiving in Florida with Mom
The Professor woke me up around 4am yesterday in Casa Indiana. No beagle should ever be awakened at 4am! And by the way, the Professor never wakes me up, I wake him up. What was going on? Looking back I should’ve known something was up when earlier that afternoon the Professor had placed the dog hammock in the back seat of his car and put one of my beds in it. Yes, I have 3 different beds at my Indiana house. Don’t all beagles have more than one bed? Anyway, this was a signal that I had to travel in the car but getting in a car at 4am is going way above the call of duty for a handsome beagle like me. When I ride in Dad’s car I like to jump from the back to the front and back. For whatever reason, the Professor doesn’t like this. So, I have to ride in this doggy hammock that keeps me in the back seat.
The Professor told me we were going to Casa Staten Tallahassee. I spent the past summer there and liked it, except for the gator. But I do remember that I didn’t care for the ten hour car ride. I tried to protest but the Professor wouldn’t hear me. Professors are sometimes that way. The Professor picked me up and put me in the hammock and we were on the road at 430am. We first went to Louisville to pick up Sissy Anna. I love my Sissy Anna, so I struggled out of the hammock and jumped out when the Professor opened the back door. I ran into Anna’s house and there it was in front of me...Bugger, her cat. I don’t like cats even if Bugger belongs to Anna. So, I turned right around and jumped back into the hammock in the back seat of the car. Guess I showed that cat who was boss!
By the time we were an hour down the road, everything began to get blurry and the next thing I know I was dreaming about beagle treats. The only vague memory I have of the trip is the Professor and Anna laughing at my snoring and a brief walk at one of the roadside rest stops. Within no time, I was in Tallahassee. Wow, that wasn’t so bad! I’m not sure what happened but today I think I figured it out. The Professor had tricked me with peanut butter. I love peanut butter. There must have been something in that peanut butter he gave me at 4am to cause me to go to sleep and lose my memory of the trip. Oh well, it doesn’t matter now because I’m in Florida with Mom, the Professor, Josh, and Anna. Bubby Josh had gotten there a few days earlier. Life would only be better if Bubby Ryan, Sissy Liz, Bubby Glenn, and Bubby Jon were with us. But for now life is good for this handsome beagle. The Professor and Josh just left to go play golf. Now it is time for this handsome beagle to take a nap and dream of a Tallahassee turkey...
