The Adventures of Snoop and the Professor. Chapter 12

Chapter 12. Snoop and the Professor: Snakes are Almost as Creepy as Gators

It has been another good week in Tallahassee. Of course, it continues to be hot and muggy and thunderstorms pass through in the late afternoon so regularly that I can set my nap time by them. Mom and the Professor left me alone yesterday and went to visit their friends – Robert, Dora, Trevor, Emily, and Erika – near Valdosta. I don’t like it when they leave me alone in the house, but it is better than having to ride in the car. Mom’s foot is getting much better thanks to my special supervision. She’s walking on it now with a funny looking stick and she goes back to work tomorrow. The Professor finished the syllabi for his courses and did a little research and Mom worked on the syllabus for the class she is teaching. They continue to read. The Professor is reading a book about Ferdinand Magellan and his trip around the world. They also continue to binge watch Madam Secretary on television but today they are watching Dirty Dancing, one of their favorite movies. The Professor sings along with the music. As I have said before, he really needs singing lessons. Honestly, I really don’t like television. Although, sometimes I get confused when I hear a doorbell on the television and run to see who is at our front door and don’t find anyone. The Professor laughs at me when I do that.

The Professor is letting me pick the path for our walks each morning because I know the area so well. Yesterday, we ran into a snake in the middle of the path, although I have to admit I didn’t see it. I was off the path smelling something really good and simply walked right past it. The Professor saw the snake and went around it. He said it was black and gray and about 2 feet long, but he had no idea what type it was. He said it did raise its little head when he went around it but he didn’t think it was poisonous. He said something about the shape of its head. I’m glad I didn’t see it. Snakes, even the ones in Indiana, are almost as creepy as gators. I did try to talk to a couple of turtles down by the small pond but, as usual, they disappeared into their shells and wouldn’t talk to me.

We ran into the other Beagle from community the other day. The Professor talked to the man, while I checked out the other Beagle. While he was small and full of energy, I am without a doubt more handsome and remain the top Beagle. We visit Tom Turtle each morning. You remember Tom Turtle, he lives just a few houses down from us. And, yes, he is moving around in his pen, so I can finally confirm to the world that he is alive !!

I am really feeling at home here now. I have permanently claimed the couch as my sleeping place and I love to go up to the small loft area and sit on my perch so I can see everyone and everything. Of course, now that I feel at home, I just heard the Professor say we would be back in Indiana this coming week. That means I have to ride in the car again. I really hate that and I really don’t like leaving Mom but the Professor says that next May we will be here in Tallahassee permanently. I need to ponder about that… In the meantime, I will take a nap and dream about the bbq that Mom and the Professor and their friends ate yesterday and the trip back to Indiana.
