Just finished reading Freedom in the Family: A Mother-Daughter Memoir of the Fight for Civil Rights by Tananarive Due and Patricia Stephens Due. I've read extensively on the civil rights movement and I just loved this book because it is so personal and it focuses on the Tallahassee/northern Florida area (the Tallahassee sit-in and jail-in movements) that I now call home. It is fascinating to hear the perspectives of the first generation of civil rights activists of the 50s/60s and then hear their daughters and sons, the second generation. The book is a tribute to the thousands of "nameless" people who were the so-called foot soldiers of the civil rights movement...I was very fortunate to meet the daughter, Tananarive, earlier this year. If you've got the time the book is well worth the read...
